There's Still Time.

"Humanity must now produce more food in the next four decades than we have in the last 8,000 years of agriculture combined. And we must do so sustainably."

-World Wildlife Fund, 2012

"Reducing food waste is the #1 Best Way to prevent global warming of 2 °C by 2050"

-Project Drawdown, 2020

It's Complicated.

Food waste is a complex, nuanced, and multi-faceted issue. Fruits and vegetables are the most wasted food group, with nearly 50% going uneaten.

Widespread waste permeates the food industry from the moment a crop is planted on a farm to the moment it is prepared on your plate. The 2050 Company was founded on an ambitious, long-term mission of reduce food waste at every level.

Homes: 39% of Food Waste

The United States is one of the only countries in the world where food waste in homes outweighs waste at any other level of the supply chain. Additionally, healthy Americans are often the most wasteful  because of their high intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. The 2050 Smoothies has the same taste and nutrition as a fresh fruit smoothie, but stays good for 100x longer. You will never again have to throw away brown bananas or make room in your freezer for frozen berries. You can keep The 2050 Smoothie in your pantry for up to a year and make a delicious smoothie whenever you feel like it!

Retail: 29% of Food Waste

Almost a third of food waste occurs in in transit to or on the shelves of grocery stores. Stores regularly cull their produce offerings to eliminate "imperfect" produce that does not have the specific size, color, or shape that their customers expect. All of the fruits and vegetables in the 2050 Smoothie are ground into a fine powder to eliminate cosmetic flaws. The fruit in our smoothies may not win any beauty contests, but it's delicious and packed with nutrients!

Farms: 33% of Food Waste

Farms are home to both  types of waste mentioned above, with produce culled based on both perishability and cosmetic factors. On top of this, farmers must navigate the complexities of predicting demand, adjusting supply, and recruiting seasonal workers. Wasted crops not only reflect lost revenue for these farmers, but also the loss of water, land, and energy used to grow these crops

Food waste on farms is the most difficult type of waste to address because it is so multifaceted. As a small business, The 2050 Company will use our resources to reduce this waste as much as impossible  As the company grows, we will  incorporate more rescued produce into each smoothie to eliminate even more waste. Our vision is long-term transformation, not short-term gains. As The 2050 Company scales, so will our impact.
